The Commons of Hilltop is looking for a compassionate and engaging volunteer to play Mexican Train Dominoes with our residents. This volunteer role will provide an opportunity to foster social interaction, engage in friendly competition, and help create a fun and lively atmosphere for our residents. As a Mexican Train Dominoes Assistant, you'll offer companionship, enhance cognitive stimulation, and contribute to the well-being of seniors through this beloved game.
Basic Requirements:
- Completion of volunteer application and interview.
- Successful completion of appropriate screenings including Hilltop Residential criminal background check without CAPS or MVR, TB test, and annual flu shot.
- Completes program orientation and position specific training. (Approximately two hours)
- Minimum age requirement of 16
- Ability to lift, push or pull 25 lbs
- Must wear name badge Positive attitude.
- Dependable and responsible.
- Maintain resident and family confidentiality.
- Ability to be nonjudgmental and empathetic.
- Good listening and communication skills.
- Completes and submits volunteer hours monthly.
- Abide by all Hilltop policies/procedures and Code of Conduct.
Key Responsibilities:
- Play Mexican Train Dominoes: Actively participate in the game with residents, ensuring they understand the rules and enjoy the experience.
- Assist with Setup: Help set up the dominoes and organize the playing area, ensuring all materials are ready for the game.
- Encourage Social Interaction: Foster a positive, friendly environment that encourages conversation and camaraderie among residents.
- Provide Gentle Support: Assist residents with any physical or cognitive challenges they may encounter while playing, offering guidance and support without taking over the game.
- Maintain a Positive Atmosphere: Ensure the game remains fun, engaging, and lighthearted, offering praise and encouragement to residents throughout the activity.
- Encourage Friendly Competition: While emphasizing enjoyment, assist residents in playing the game fairly and help mediate any rules questions or challenges.
- Promote Resident Comfort: Ensure that residents are comfortable during the activity, offering help if they need a break or any other assistance.
- Respectful and Inclusive: Treat all residents with dignity and respect, recognizing and accommodating individual needs.
