Description

The Activity and Companionship Volunteer plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for residents in our program by assisting with activities, providing meaningful companionship, and maintaining a welcoming environment. This position involves a blend of direct interaction with residents, support for program activities, and general upkeep of common areas.

Basic Requirements:  

  • Completion of volunteer application and interview.
  • Successful completion of appropriate screenings which include a Hilltop Residential Criminal Background Check without CAPS or MVR, TB test and flu shot. 
  • Successful completion of  program orientation and position specific training totaling 4 hours.
  • Volunteer should possess strong interpersonal skills and open mindedness
  • Dependable and responsible.
  • Maintain client and family confidentiality.
  • Ability to be nonjudgmental and empathetic.
  • Good listening and communication skills.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs.
  • Completes and submits volunteer hours to position supervisor monthly.
  • Abide by all Hilltop policies/procedures and Code of Conduct.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with Scheduled Activities: Support staff in preparing for, conducting, and concluding scheduled activities. Participate actively in activities, ensuring residents are engaged and supported. Help with setting up and cleaning up after activities.
  • Activity Queuing: Actively reach out to residents to invite them to and engage them in planned engagement activities. ü  Activity Surveying: Periodically, as assigned by life enrichment staff, conduct activity surveys about resident's engagement and enjoyment of enrichment activities.  
  • Engage with Residents and Visitors: Continuously “roam” the Fitness Center during your shift, greeting residents and visitors warmly. Initiate conversations and provide companionship to residents, being attentive to their needs. Monitor the environment and report any issues or concerns to appropriate staff.
  • Maintain Bathroom Cleanliness: Monitor the cleanliness of the bathroom areas.  If immediate attention is needed, promptly contact Environmental Services for assistance.
  • Upkeep of Kitchen and Coffee Station: Ensure the kitchen and coffee station remain clean and well-stocked with essentials like sugar, cups, etc.  Prepare coffee according to resident requests, ensuring their preferences are met.
  • Volunteer will dress casually and appropriately for their volunteer duties.  Volunteer will always wear their name badge while on duty. 
  • Maintains open communication with other team members, reporting all concerns to supervisor.
  • Notifies supervisor if not able to make scheduled shift.
