Class (POD) Instructor or Activity Facilitator with Connections of Hilltop

Description

Would you like to be part of a movement aimed at reducing homelessness in Mesa County? Help support the young adults who utilize the services of Connections by using your creativity, knowledge and subject matter expertise to organize, facilitate or lead engaging, meaningful and fun classes or activities with Connections of Hilltop.   Topics or activities may include arts and crafts, money management, fitness, emergency preparedness, employment skills, life skills, gardening, parenting, etc.  

Basic Requirements:

  • Completion of volunteer application and interview.
  • Successful completion of appropriate screenings (Hilltop Non-Residential Criminal Background check without CAPS or MVR, TRAILS Child Abuse Registry screening, and finger printing)
  • Completes program orientation and position specific training. (One hour program orientation)
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Strong leadership, public speaking, and adaptability skills
  • Dependable, responsible, and consistent.
  • Maintain client and family confidentiality.
  • Minimum age requirement: 18 or 14 with adult supervision
  • Good listening and communication skills.
  • Completes and submits volunteer hours monthly.
  • Abide by all Hilltop policies/procedures and Code of Conduct.

Key Responsibilities

  • Class Planning and Coordination:

    • Work with the Program Coordinator to design and plan educational sessions or workshops on the topic of your choice (e.g., arts and crafts, job readiness, financial literacy, fitness, parenting, gardening).

    • Prepare materials and resources needed for each class, ensuring they are accessible and engaging for residents.

    • Adapt classes to suit the varying skill levels, backgrounds, and interests of residents.

  • Class Facilitation:

    • Lead classes or workshops, ensuring that residents are engaged, motivated, and comfortable participating.

    • Provide clear instructions and hands-on guidance for activities, discussions, and lessons.

    • Encourage open communication and group participation, fostering a positive and collaborative learning environment.

  • Supportive Teaching and Mentorship:

    • Offer individualized support to residents, helping them overcome challenges in learning or skills development.

    • Create a space where residents feel respected and empowered to ask questions, express themselves, and grow.

    • Provide encouragement and positive reinforcement to boost residents' confidence in their abilities.

  • Collaboration with Other Volunteers and Staff:

    • Work alongside other volunteers or program staff to ensure the success of each class or workshop.

    • Share feedback and insights with the Program Coordinator to help refine and improve future educational sessions.

  • Evaluation and Feedback:

    • Gather feedback from residents about their learning experiences and interests to ensure that the program meets their needs.

    • Adjust teaching methods or activities based on feedback to improve the effectiveness of future sessions.

  • Safety and Well-being:

    • Ensure that the classroom or activity space is safe and conducive to learning.

    • Adhere to program guidelines, including confidentiality and respectful conduct, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all residents.
