Purpose of Position: Hilltop Community Resources' Connections Program is seeking compassionate and enthusiastic volunteers to support Breakfast Service at our Emergency Shelter. Volunteers in this role will help prepare and serve simple, nutritious breakfasts for youth accessing our services, while fostering a warm, welcoming, and supportive environment. This is a great opportunity to make a direct impact on the lives of young people in our community by starting their day with nourishment, connection, and kindness.
Basic Requirements:
- Completion of volunteer application and interview.
- Successful completion of appropriate screenings (Hilltop Non-Residential Criminal Background check without CAPS or MVR, TRAILS Child Abuse Registry screening, and finger printing)
- Completes program orientation and position specific training. (One hour program orientation), one hour food handlers permit course completed online, additional trainings over the first 3 months of volunteering.
- Ability to work with diverse populations
- Strong leadership, public speaking, and adaptability skills
- Dependable, responsible, and consistent.
- Maintain client and family confidentiality.
- Minimum age requirement: 18 or 14 with adult supervision
- Good listening and communication skills.
- Completes and submits volunteer hours monthly.
- Abide by all Hilltop policies/procedures and Code of Conduct.
- Must wear Hilltop Name Badge while volunteering
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare simple breakfast items using food and supplies provided by the program on Tuesday mornings. (e.g., cereal, toast, fruit, eggs, etc.).
- Set up and serve breakfast to youth clients in a respectful and engaging manner.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen and dining area during and after meal service.
- Build rapport with youth by creating a supportive, positive, and inclusive atmosphere during breakfast hours.
- Work collaboratively with staff and other volunteers to ensure smooth meal service.
- Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines as instructed by the program.
