Purpose of Position:The Garden Support Volunteer assists youth and young adults living at Hilltop’s permanent supportive housing facility, Laurel House, with planting, caring for, and maintaining the community garden. This role provides residents with opportunities to learn gardening skills, enjoy the outdoors, and foster a sense of community and pride in their shared space. Volunteers play a supportive role in both the upkeep of the garden and in encouraging residents to engage with and enjoy the garden together.
Basic Requirements:
Completion of volunteer application and interview.
Successful completion of appropriate screenings (Hilltop Non-Residential Criminal Background check without CAPS or MVR, TRAILS Child Abuse Registry screening, and finger printing)
Completes program orientation and position specific training. (One hour program orientation)
Ability to work with diverse populations
Strong leadership, public speaking, and adaptability skills
Dependable, responsible, and consistent.
Maintain client and family confidentiality.
Minimum age requirement: 18 or 14 with adult supervision
Good listening and communication skills.
Completes and submits volunteer hours monthly.
Abide by all Hilltop policies/procedures and Code of Conduct.
Volunteers must wear name badge while volunteering
Key Responsibilities
Assist residents with planting, watering, weeding, and harvesting.
Help maintain the overall health and appearance of the garden.
Encourage resident participation by working alongside them in a supportive, friendly manner.
Share basic gardening knowledge and model good practices.
Support staff in creating a safe and welcoming environment for all participants.
