Description

The Parents As Teachers (PAT) Program provides support and services parents need to give their children the best possible starts in life. The program is open to moms, dads, caregivers and siblings. This program offers individual home visits, health screenings, information and resources on health, safety, sleep, nutrition, routines and discipline, and monthly group meetings to provide additional support to parents and caregivers. 

Do you have a passion for creating meaningful, age-suitable activities that foster children's emotional, physical, and intellectual development, while also ensuring their safety? Do you delight in seeing the world through children's perspectives as they engage in play, enjoy music, create art, and partake in singing and dancing.  If so, join us as a Child Care Support volunteer at upcoming Parents As Teachers group meetings. 

This volunteer works under the supervision/direction of Hilltop's Parents As Teachers (PAT) Group Facilitator, in conjunction with the Volunteer Services Department.

Upcoming Needs for this position:

Parents as Teachers is hosting a CPR class for participants on April 20, 2026 from 9am - 2pm at Hilltop on Main, 359 Main St in Grand Junction. Volunteers should arrive 15 minutes early and plan to stay 15 minutes after the class.  Lunch is provided for participants and volunteers.  

Basic Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old or 14 years old with adult supervision. 
  • Completion of volunteer application and interview. 
  • Successful completion of appropriate screenings, Criminal background check, TRAILS Child Abuse Registry and Fingerprints. 
  • Completes volunteer onboarding, program orientation and position specific training. 
  • CPR certified 
  • Ability to function as part of a team 
  • This can be a physically demanding position working with multiple aged children 
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 20 lbs. 
  • Dependable and responsible. 
  • Maintain client confidentiality. 
  • Ability to be nonjudgmental and empathetic.  
  • Good organizational and communication skills. 
  • Completes and submits volunteer hours on Hilltop's volunteer portal.  
  • Abide by all Hilltop policies/procedures and Code of Conduct. 
  • Maintain Hilltops values.

Performance Responsibility 

  • Plan group child activities according to developmental age and interests 
  • Assure children are engaged in planned activities crafts, games, and free play. 
  • Develops relationship with each individual child, act as a positive role model. 
  • Keep Family Room clean and organized 
  • Notify parent/ caregiver/ staff of need for diapering, unmanageable behaviors, bathroom breaks and other unique situations.  
  • Dress Code: Comfortable clothes that can get dirty, close toed shoes. Wears Hilltop volunteer name badge. 
  • Maintains open communication with other team members, reporting all concerns to supervisor.  Notifies supervisor if not able to make scheduled shift.  Participation may vary with each group. Be prepared for any change.
