Position Summary
Hilltop Community Resources offers Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) students a dynamic and meaningful internship experience across a variety of programs serving individuals, families, older adults, children, and community members throughout Western Colorado. This internship provides opportunities to apply classroom learning in a professional setting while developing foundational social work skills under the guidance of experienced professionals.
Interns will gain exposure to direct service, community engagement, case management, advocacy, resource coordination, and program operations based on the needs of their assigned program and the student's learning goals.
Learning Opportunities
Intern responsibilities may include:
- Building professional relationships with clients, residents, participants, and community members.
- Assisting with case management, resource navigation, and service coordination.
- Supporting program activities, groups, events, and educational opportunities.
- Participating in client assessments, documentation, and service planning as appropriate.
- Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and community partners.
- Learning about ethical practice, professional boundaries, and social work standards.
- Observing and participating in advocacy efforts that support client well-being.
- Completing special projects that contribute to program goals and organizational mission.
- Engaging in reflective practice and professional development activities.
Responsibilities will vary depending on the assigned program and the student's educational requirements.
Supervision and Support
BSW interns will participate in one hour of weekly supervision with Hilltop's internship supervision team. These supervision sessions provide opportunities for professional development, case consultation, reflection, integration of social work competencies, and support throughout the internship experience.
In addition, interns will receive day-to-day guidance and direction from their assigned Task Supervisor within their program. Interns are expected to follow the policies, procedures, and expectations established by their assigned program and supervisor.
Professional Growth
Interns will begin their placement with appropriate orientation, observation, and learning opportunities. As skills, knowledge, and confidence develop, interns will gradually assume increased responsibility and independence in alignment with their educational goals, demonstrated competencies, and program needs.

Basic Requirements
• Completion of volunteer application and interview.
• Successful completion of appropriate screenings Hilltop Non-Residential criminal background check without CAPS or MVR, Trails Child Abuse Registry Screening, and Fingerprinting through Colorado Fingerprinting and/or Hilltop Residential Criminal Background Check and meet the health requirements of successful TB test and seasonal flu shot.
• Completes program orientation and position specific training. (Approximately 2 hours)
• Must wear name badge
• Dependable and responsible.
• Maintain participant and donor confidentiality
• Must be at least 18 years old
• Good listening and communication skills.
• Completes and submits volunteer hours monthly.
• Abide by all Hilltop policies/procedures and Code of Conduct.

- Current enrollment in an accredited Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to learn, receive feedback, and engage in self-reflection.

Time Commitment
Internship schedules and hours will be determined collaboratively between the student, educational institution, task supervisor, and internship supervision team to meet program and academic requirements.
