The Walking Group Leader is responsible for organizing, leading, and facilitating walking sessions for residents at our assisted living facility. This role involves promoting physical activity, social interaction, and overall well-being among participants. The Walking Group Leader will create a welcoming and safe environment, encouraging residents to engage in regular exercise while enjoying the benefits of companionship and outdoor activity.

Basic Requirements:

  • Completion of volunteer application and interview.
  • Successful completion of appropriate screenings Hilltop Residential criminal background check without CAPS or MVR, flu shot, and TB testing
  • Completes program orientation and position specific training. (Approximately 2 hours)
  • Must wear name badge
  • Dependable and responsible.
  • Maintain client and family confidentiality.
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Good listening and communication skills.
  • Completes and submits volunteer hours monthly.
  • Abide by all Hilltop policies/procedures and Code of Conduct.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and Schedule Walks: Organize and schedule regular walking sessions, ensuring consistency and accommodating residents' availability and preferences.
  • Lead Walks: Lead groups on walking routes, providing guidance, motivation, and encouragement to participants throughout the walk.
  • Ensure Safety: Monitor the safety and well-being of participants, including assessing the walking route for hazards, ensuring proper hydration, and providing first aid if needed.
  • Foster Social Interaction: Encourage conversation and interaction among residents to build community and enhance the social experience of the walks.
  • Adapt to Needs: Modify walking routes and pace as needed to accommodate varying mobility levels and health conditions of participants.
  • Promote Health Benefits: Educate participants about the health benefits of regular walking and physical activity.
  • Communicate Effectively: Maintain clear and open communication with residents, their families, and facility staff regarding walking group activities and any changes to schedules.
  • Report and Document: Keep records of attendance, participant feedback, and any incidents or concerns during walks. Report any significant issues to facility management.
