Description

The Resident Companionship and Social Support Volunteer plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for residents at our assisted living facility. This volunteer provides emotional support, engages in meaningful conversations, and fosters a sense of community and belonging among residents. The goal is to offer companionship, reduce feelings of isolation, and contribute to a warm and supportive environment.

Basic Requirements: 

  • Completion of volunteer application and interview.
  • Successful completion of appropriate screenings including Hilltop Residential criminal background check without CAPS or MVR, TB test, required vaccinations and annual flu shot.
  • Completes program orientation and position specific training. (Approximately two hours)
  • Minimum age of 16
  • Ability to lift, push or pull 20 lbs.
  • Must wear name badge
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Dependable and responsible.
  • Maintain resident and family confidentiality.
  • Ability to be nonjudgmental and empathetic.
  • Good listening and communication skills.
  • Completes and submits volunteer hours monthly.
  • Abide by all Hilltop policies/procedures and Code of Conduct.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in Conversations: Spend quality time with residents, engaging in conversations that cater to their interests and preferences. Listen actively and provide emotional support.
  • Participate in Activities: Assist in resident in participating in recreational and social activities, such as games, crafts, or group discussions, to encourage resident involvement and enjoyment.
  • Build Relationships: Develop and maintain positive, trusting relationships with residents by showing empathy, respect, and genuine care.
  • Encourage Social Interaction: Facilitate social interactions among residents, helping to create opportunities for them to connect with one another and build friendships.
  • Offer Emotional Support: Provide comfort and encouragement to residents who may be experiencing loneliness, sadness, or other emotional challenges.
  • Support Daily Routines: Assist residents with daily routines, such as reading, writing letters, or engaging in hobbies, based on their individual needs and interests.
  • Report Concerns: Observe and report any changes in residents' emotional or physical well-being to facility staff, ensuring timely and appropriate support.
  • Maintain Confidentiality: Respect and protect residents' privacy and confidentiality in all interactions and communications.
