The Indoor Plant and Garden Care Volunteer is responsible for maintaining the health and vitality of indoor plants and assisting residents in caring for the facility's garden during gardening season. This role combines horticultural tasks with community engagement, providing residents with an opportunity to connect with nature and enjoy the therapeutic benefits of gardening.
Basic Requirements:
- Completion of volunteer application and interview.
- Successful completion of appropriate screenings including Hilltop Residential criminal background check without CAPS or MVR, TB test, required vaccinations and annual flu shot.
- Completes program orientation and position specific training. (Approximately 2 hours)
- Minimum age requirement of 16
- Must wear name badge
- Ability to lift, push or pull 25 lbs.

- Maintain resident and family confidentiality.
- Ability to be nonjudgmental and empathetic.
- Good listening and communication skills.
- Completes and submits volunteer hours monthly.
- Abide by all Hilltop policies/procedures and Code of Conduct.
Key Responsibilities:
- Indoor Plant Care: Water, and maintain indoor plants, ensuring they receive proper care and attention. Monitor plant health, trim as needed, and address any issues such as pests or diseases.
- Garden Maintenance: Assist residents with garden tasks, including planting, weeding, watering, and harvesting. Ensure the garden is well-organized and visually appealing.
- Resident Engagement: Encourage and support residents in their gardening activities, offering guidance and assistance based on their individual abilities and interests.
- Educational Support: Share basic gardening tips and techniques with residents, helping them understand plant care and gardening practices.
- Seasonal Preparation: Assist in preparing the garden for different seasons, including planting seasonal flowers, vegetables, or herbs, and preparing the garden for winter.
- Safety and Clean-Up: Ensure a safe gardening environment by maintaining tools and equipment, cleaning up after gardening activities, and addressing any safety concerns.
- Record Keeping: Maintain records of plant care routines, garden activities, and any observations about the garden’s condition or residents’ involvement.
